Description
Improved thread adapter for the M14. It converts the 19/32″-32TPI muzzle threads to a 5/8″-24, suitable for mounting a suppressor combined with 2-position adjustable valve.
This redesigned adapter has several distinct advantages versus other products on the market:
- The internal geometry has a counter-bored recess in the front that is only a few thousandths bigger diameter than the tip of the barrel, so this assures the adapter is concentric to the barrel.
- The adapter has the bottom of the counter-bore seat on the crown of the barrel, assuring the adapter is parallel to the bore.
- The adapter can be used alone, without a front sight, for people who are going to scope their rifle. This design eliminates the complexity of needing splines to time the front sight to the rifle, or needing the castle nut to hold it on. Machining splines and square holes is an expensive process, requiring broaching or Wire EDM machining, so this design is a highly effective, low cost solution to adaping threads for suppressor mounts, or other muzzle devices.
- The adapter can also be used with a front sight we designed to go with it (sold separately). Exactly to eliminate the need for splines and castle nuts to time the sight, in order to set mechanical zero by sliding the front sight left-right, this much simplified design sets mechanical zero by allowing the front sight to rotate about the adapter.
2-Position Adjustable Reduced Flow gas valve for the M14 replaces the stock spindle valve on the M14 (including sub-variants M1A, M25, Tanker, EBR, etc) and limits gas flow into the gas system when firing heavier loads, or when firing suppressed. You can shoot with confidence that you are not over stressing the op-rod, or damaging your brass. Instead of ON/OFF, the valve has two openings, so you have ON/Reduced Flow. In either position, a set screw accessible without disassembling the rifle can be used to fine tune the gas you let into the action.
This valve is a revision of the USGI version: the slot to rotate between on/off has been moved to the thin end of the valve, and the chamfered head has been flattened. All this, so a set-screw can be added, coming in from the side to regulate the size of the gas passage from the barrel into the gas cylinder. A second, smaller opening has also been added, so you can adjust the restricted flow opening, and get a second position allowing more flow for when you remove the suppressor. Or, if you only want a slight reduction of flow, like if you are shooting 175 grain bullets and just want to slow the action slightly, you can adjust the valve when it is on the larger opening position.
Unlike other solutions that let too much gas into the gas system, then have to vent it back out, this system simply does not let the gas in, in the first place. Simpler, and better. The valve is infinitely adjustable, from almost fully closed, up to full USGI size, so you can set it to a minimum, where it will not cycle the gun, then open it a little at a time until it just locks the bolt back on an empty magazine. After that, tighten the lock nut, and you are all set to go, regardless of the barrel length, load, bullet weight, or choice of suppressor.
No modifications to the gun are required: this is a 5 minute drop-in that is fully reversible.
Includes both wrenches needed to adjust.
