An Industry First: ShootingSight is pleased to offer shooting glasses that are both adjustable for competition shooting, and offer actual safety protection!

Shooters have long been faced with the compromise of either wearing safety gasses that meet ANSI standards for impact protection, or using competition glasses that allow the corrective lens to be adjusted for position and angle, but do not pass any of the impact tests that are needed to provide meaningful eye protection.  ShootingSight has finally resolved this dilemma by keeping it simple; starting with a pair of commercially available safety glasses that carry a Z87+ high impact rating, then adding to it a 5-axis articulated mechanism for holding corrective lenses.

The safety glasses are an aviator style frame that offer maximum internal volume to minimize fogging.  Then, a center mount clamping system developed and manufactured by ShootingSight attaches to the frames.  It has two Carbon Fiber arms: one pivoting for the shooting eye, and one fixed for the other eye.  These arms attach clamps for lens holders to be attached, pivoting in two axes, and moving in two axes.  Clamps attach with large head thumb screws for easy adjustment.  They are compatible with both the included lens frame, as well as most of the other lens frames on the market from Champion, Knobloch, Tec-hro, and others, so most other existing lens holders and accesories can be re-used.

Glasses are designed and sold by an American company in Tennessee, made in China for low cost (as are almost all safety glasses on the market).  They meet ANSI Z87+ ‘high impact’ requirements, which means they will not only stop a 1/4″ steel ball fired at 150 fps (over 100 mph), as well as stopping a 1 lb pointed weight, dropped from over 4 feet onto the glasses.  Success means the lens did not shatter, the lens did not pop out of the frame, and no portion of the lens/frame assembly distorted enough for any part of it to impact the wearer’s face.  The lens holders and attachment system are all designed and made by ShootingSight in the USA, in Cincinnati Ohio.

Since the lenses in the safety glasses meet the CMP requirement for eye protection, rifle shooters can use the smaller 23mm lens holders for better positioning in prone shooting, or else use the innovative tangent mount lens that allows positioning close to the face, even when the lens is at extreme angles.
