Full Lens Safety Reading Glasses:
These are high impact rated safety glasses with a full reading lens – NOT the bifocal stuff you see everywhere.
I spent three years looking for a source for these. I work up close on a lathe and a mill, and I don’t like bifocals, where I have to tip my head back to look at what I’m doing. The alternative is custom safety glasses, but they wanted upwards of $150 to make them up; or else to wear reading glasses, and then wear a second set of safety glasses over them.
At last – full lens safety rated reading glasses for a fraction of the price of custom glasses.
Lenses are impact rated Polycarbonate with a scratch resistant coating.
Frames are plain, but beggars can’t be choosers. Powers available are +1.25, +1.50, +1.75, +2.00. Lower power safety reading glasses are available in wrap style on another product page.
I might eventually carry higher power if there is sufficient demand.
What power do you need? Diopter is actually not a measure of lens ‘strength’ but a measure of where that lens will focus your eye, and the math is simple. Diopter is simply the inverse of the focal length, in meters. A 2.0 diopter lens will focus your eye at 1/2 meter (20″). A 3.0 diopter lens will focus your eye at 1/3 meter (12″), and so on.
If you measure the distance from your eye to whatever task you are working on, say 24″ away, you would calculate the best diopter as follows:
1. Convert 24″ to meters by multiplying by 0.0254 to get 0.61 meters.
2. Invert that number 1 / 0.61 = 1.64 diopters.
3. Round down to the nearest step of 0.25, so you would want +1.5 diopter glasses for this task.
